from an idea to a physical part.

Partvo’s live Model Context Protocol (MCP) service connects a measured brief, hosted AI-assisted CAD generation and reviewed design files. The live capabilities endpoint reports the current model and integration status. Manufacturing quotes and completed print-and-ship orders remain unavailable.

Available today: the free idea-to-part skill, hosted Design Studio, authenticated REST API and scoped-key MCP at app.partvo.com/mcp/v1. An original Partvo export ZIP can be reimported only when it exactly matches its saved artifact. Arbitrary external CAD import and managed printing are not available.

Can an AI agent get a 3D model physically printed?

That is the workflow Partvo is developing: an agent prepares or supplies a design, resolves missing measurements, selects a suitable material and requests manufacturing options. A person or a valid spending mandate must approve the exact artifact, quote, quantity and destination before money is committed to production. A design conversation alone is not permission to order.

If you need a shipped part today, Partvo is not yet an available fulfillment option. You can use the skill to prepare the design and print brief for a service you select independently.

A printing service or a connection to your own printer?

“3D printing MCP” can describe several different tools. Choose by the outcome you need:

• Design tools: create or revise CAD and export a model. They do not necessarily manufacture it.
• Printer-control tools: connect to a printer or fleet you operate, often through systems such as OctoPrint. You still manage the machine, material and physical output.
• Print-and-ship services: arrange third-party manufacturing and delivery. Partvo’s live MCP endpoint provides the design workflow; its future manufacturing service will belong in this category.

The Partvo MCP workflow

1. Describe the part. Record units, measured dimensions, mating components, load, environment and budget. A photograph needs a known dimension to establish scale.
2. Create or verify CAD. Partvo’s hosted model creates or revises a design using its supported tools. Briefs up to 5,000 mm are accepted, with multipart construction where feasible; an accepted brief does not guarantee a successful large design. External agents can use the authenticated API; new external CAD import is not available merely because an agent names a model.
3. Inspect a version. Review the model, dimensions, unresolved assumptions and exact file version. Validated designs may include STEP and STL. Suitable flat cutting geometry may yield DXF when requested, but it still needs manual CAM preparation and is not a machine-ready toolpath or G-code. Check every exported format before fabrication; see the CNC brief for sheet-cutting checks.
4. Compare manufacturing choices. Future choices should show production country, process, material, quantity, finishing, delivery estimate and total cost. No live supplier quote is promised.
5. Approve and order. A future order would require approval of the exact artifact, quote, quantity and destination. A design conversation does not authorize a purchase.
6. Track and verify. The future manufacturing workflow would return order status and shipping information. Check delivered dimensions and fit before use.

Choosing a material starts with the use case

The free skill includes material-decision guidance. Tell the agent about heat, moisture, sunlight, loads, flexibility, surface finish and the surfaces the part must fit. It should explain candidate materials and uncertainties before selecting a process. A prototype’s appearance does not establish its strength or suitability for use.

Start with the measured design-brief checklist. The initial Partvo service is intended for ordinary, non-safety-critical prototypes and project parts.

Can I connect ChatGPT or another agent now?

You can download the skill and use it in an agent environment that supports skills and appropriate CAD tools. It is an instruction package, not a hosted connector. Hosted design MCP is available at https://app.partvo.com/mcp/v1 using scoped API keys created after signing in at agent access. See the developer page for the REST contract and live status for the current hosted model. OAuth, autonomous payment transport and completed print fulfillment are unavailable.

See the three workflows for people and external agents. Do not send files, credentials or payments to guessed MCP endpoints.

What will it cost?

The hosted monthly plan starts at $3 plus applicable tax for 10 million credits in the first month, then renews at $10/month until canceled. Unused monthly credits expire at renewal. Extra-use top-ups start at $5 for 5 million credits, do not reset monthly, and receive 10% off above $20 before tax. Credits measure usage, not a guaranteed number of designs; known model usage can be charged even when generation fails. Top up in the Studio. Physical printing and shipping are separate and not available for completed orders. The open-source skill itself is free, although your own model and tool providers may charge.

Ask about MCP printing early access. Include your agent environment, part type, destination country and expected volume. Send a description first, not confidential CAD files.
